Orange zest, dark chocolate, ginger!? Ginger zap and orange zest zing play off the slight sweetness of the dark chocolate perfectly in these flaky, feed me more please, scones! Try them out!
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
⁃ 2 cups flour
⁃ 1 tsp baking powder
⁃ 1/4 minus tsp salt
⁃ 1/3 cup sugar
– 1/4 cup butter
⁃ 1/4 cup chopped candied ginger
⁃ 1/4 cup chopped dark chocolate
⁃ 1/2 cup milk
⁃ Squeeze of orange juice
⁃ Optional egg yolk and water coating
Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in medium bowl. Cut cold butter into dry ingredients with pastry blender. Add orange zest, a squeeze of the orange to the milk. Add liquid to dry ingredients and work dough until just combined. Add dark chocolate into dough and work in. Form dough into round about 1/2 inch thick. Score the top about half way through into six equal wedges. Mix egg yolk with 1 tbsp of water and brush over scones. Bake on parchment paper for 18-20 min. Place on rack to cool, then drizzle topping, and eat!
Juice from 1/2 an orange
1/2 tsp orange zest
1/2 cup of powdered sugar. (More depending on size of orange)
