Dark Chocolate Ginger Turmeric Bark

Dark Chocolate

I can’t begin to describe my love for dark chocolate! It has this beautiful sweet slightly bitter taste. Like a perfectly roasted coffee you can pick out flavor notes whether floral, earthy, berry, or wood. You also can feel great about indulging in dark chocolate because it is essentially a super food. Rich in free radical busting flavonoids and antioxidants! Helps to relax blood vessels which can help lower blood pressure and risk or cardiac diseases like heart attack and stroke! What an amazing and delicious treat!

Ginger

The spicy, warm, zesty flavor of ginger is truly unique. It is versatile and can be used in savory or sweet recipes. Ginger is actually closely related to turmeric and like turmeric has amazing health benefits. Ginger contains anti inflammatory properties that help reduce muscle pain, joint pain, and can help lower blood pressure. Additionally ginger is great for treating nausea. What an amazing root!

Turmeric

Turmeric the “golden spice” has a beautiful burnt yellow color and delicious citrus to bitter taste. Beyond turmerics use as a spice it has many health benefits. Rich in antioxidants turmeric can help to fight against free radicals. Free radicals can damage our bodies cells and lead to cancers. It also contains curcumin, a powerful anti inflammatory

Turmeric Ginger Chocolate

TEMPERING CHOCOLATE

Tempering chocolate can get complex but I like to keep it simple. Here are my rules:

  1. Use a double boiler. Put 1 inch of water in the lower pot. Make sure the water doesn’t touch the upper pot.
  2. Heat Boiler to medium low.
  3. Add 1 cup of chocolate chips to the double boiler and stir continuously with a spatula.
  4. Once the chocolate has melted remove from heat and add remaining 1/2 cup of chocolate chips.
  5. Stir in until melted, if the chocolate chips don’t melt completely place back on heat until melted.
  6. Done!

It is important not to overheat your chocolate or you will lose the tempering and shine of the chocolate. It also will be more prone to melt after it has hardened.

The next step in making this chocolate bark is to stir in your ingredients! Stir in the diced candied ginger, turmeric powder, and cocoa nibs. Then pour out the chocolate onto parchment paper and smooth out with a spatula to about 1/4 inch depth. Sprinkle some additional turmeric, and flakes of salt on top. Allow to cool at warm temperature for several hours or Chill in freezer for 30 minutes. Break bark into pieces and enjoy!

  • 1/2 cup diced candied ginger packed
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp cacao nibs
  • 1/4 tsp Jacobson sea salt for topping
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder for topping
