Cooking perfect oats

Perfecting Your Oats

Everyone can cook oats right? Just boil some water or milk and you are good to go! Okay so oats aren’t the most complicated cuisine, but there are some tricks to make sure you end up with the perfect oats you wanted.

Sticky Oats

If you like your oats sticky and gooey the answer is milk. I find that using a mixture of milk and water works great. For even creamier sticky delicious oats use only milk! Any form of milk will work great, oat, dairy, almond, cashew, soy, or rice will all work well.

Free Oats

Oats cooked in water tend to keep their shape, wholeness, and well freedom! Cooking oats in water allows the oats to keep their texture, delicious in your organic oatmeal bowl. Personally my favorite way to cook them.

Tips

  • Use a ratio of 1.5 cups of liquid to every 1 cup of oats.
  • Add a pinch of salt to your liquid.
  • Stir the oats frequently.
  • Brown sugar or maple syrup add a rich caramel sweetness.

Organic Oatmeal Bowl Toppings:

  • Greek yogurt (a dollop adds a delicious tart creaminess as well as some extra protein)

Organic Oatmeal Bowl

Make your organic oatmeal bowl your own, find a combination that works for you. We often set our oatmeal up as a bar set up so everyone can make their bowl theirs! We often end up having oatmeal bowls for dinner after I get home from work. The boys love it and it is easy to pull together in a pinch. Another great option is yogurt bowls take a look at our recipe and give it a try.

Beware of Non-Organic!

Recent studies have shown that glyphosate also known as round up is found in oat containing products. Protect yourself and your family by buying only certified organic oat products! Please check out EWG (environmental working groups) article on this issue.
